St. Petersburg Child Support Lawyers
Pinellas County Child Support Agreement Attorneys
In Florida, child support is based on a legislative formula. It takes into consideration the income of both parents and other expenses, such as child care, health insurance and extracurricular activities. The important thing to remember is that child support is not meant to punish a parent, but rather to provide financially for a child whose parents are separated.
At Battaglia, Ross, Dicus & Wein, P.A., in St. Petersburg, Florida, we counsel clients on the child support guidelines and help them understand their financial rights and responsibilities as parents. We want what is best for our clients and their children. Contact our office to schedule a consultation.
Child Support and Paternity
Where the parents were not married, paternity must be established before a child support proceeding can move forward. Either parent may request a paternity test. If a couple is married, the husband is automatically presumed to be the father of the child. However, this presumption may be rebutted under certain circumstances.
When filing for divorce or getting a separation, we will assertively represent your interests in paternity and child support matters.
Child Support Modifications
Although child support is determined by a statutory formula, in some limited circumstances, the court may deviate from the guidelines. Child support can also be modified as circumstances change. At BRDW, we can help you modify your child support agreement to better fit the situation.
